The evergreen list · Updated as councils publish
No ban months. No "except between the groynes". No small print taped to a lamppost in April. Every beach on this page takes dogs from the 1st of January to New Year's Eve — verified by a human, dated in public.
A wild, rugged sweep of untouched coastline between Scarborough and Filey that is a favourite with surfers, and dogs are welcome on it all year round. Reaching the sand means a steep path and steps down from the clifftop, so it is not wheelchair accessible.

A long, quiet stretch of shoreline running from the Speeton cliffs up to Filey, reached by a steep path from a private cash-only clifftop car park. Dogs are welcome all year, and its distance from the crowds makes it a favourite escape when Filey's central beach ban is in force.

The cobbled village winds steeply down to the seafront, where a vast stretch of rocky beach opens up at low tide — perfect for rockpooling and fossil hunting with a dog in tow. Dogs are welcome all year and the beach connects to the King Charles III Coast Path, but check tide times as high water covers most of the beach.

A picture-postcard sheltered bay tucked under the hillside village, ideal for fossil hunting along the shore. Dogs are welcome all year round, but time your visit with the tide — a large sandy beach appears at low tide while high water can cover the beach entirely.

A small, sheltered harbour beach hemmed in by steep cliffs at the foot of one of Yorkshire's prettiest fishing villages. Dogs are welcome all year, but the beach mostly disappears at high tide and the walk down through the village is steep, so it is not wheelchair accessible.

A small, sheltered patch of sand tucked within Whitby's main pier walls on the east side of the harbour, below the 199 steps. The council removed its dogs-on-lead restriction in the 2025 Public Space Protection Order, so dogs are now welcome all year — though access is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Miles of golden sand curving from Filey Brigg's rockpools down towards Hunmanby, with ramps and slipways giving some of the coast's best wheelchair-friendly access. The summer ban covers only the central town stretch between Royal Parade's sea wall and the Coble Landing slipway — but take care exploring the Brigg, where the tide can cut you off.
A long sweep of sand running from Sandsend village back towards Whitby, with step-free access towards the north end via a steep walkway. The summer ban only covers the village-adjacent section from the steps below the public toilets to the Bank Bottom Car Park slipway — but note high tide reaches the sea wall in places, squeezing the dog-friendly sand.
Scarborough's quieter northern beach below Royal Albert Drive, with excellent ramp access and the SEA LIFE centre at its far end. The summer exclusion only covers the middle stretch between the former Corner Café slipway and the end of the chalet run, so dogs can still enjoy the sands either side all year.
The classic bucket-and-spade beach beneath Scarborough's harbour and Grand Hotel, with ramps and wheelchair-friendly paths along the Foreshore. In summer the ban runs from the West Pier to the steps by the underground car park roundabout, leaving the quieter stretch towards the Spa open to dogs.
Whitby's big sandy town beach below the West Cliff, with a gentle slope suitable for wheelchairs and beach wheelchairs available for hire. In summer the banned zone runs from the West Pier to the steps half way along the beach chalets, so head north past the chalets where dogs are welcome all year.
