A huge tidal basin of mud and sand west of Bamburgh, part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and one of the best wildfowl roosts in England. No seasonal dog ban applies, but this is a bird place rather than a ball-throwing place, and a dog off the lead here will clear the bay in seconds. Views from the roadside pull-in are as good as walking it, and the tide comes in fast across the flats.
THE SMALL PRINTNo seasonal restriction under the Northumberland County Council (Dog Control) Public Spaces Protection Order in force from 31 January 2026; the county's only restricted beach stretches are at Newbiggin by the Sea and Blyth, 1 May to 30 September, fixed penalty £100. Budle Bay is a national nature reserve and a major wildfowl roost, so close control matters more here than the order does.
