Sheltered estuary sand where the Taw and Torridge meet, with the Tarka Trail running behind it. What operates here is a parish Beach Code of Conduct rather than a legal ban: walkers are asked to keep off the stretch between the Quay and the Boathouse during the middle of the day in high summer, and to lead dogs on the upper beach there. The rest of the beach is open all year.

THE SMALL PRINTInstow Parish Council Beach Code of Conduct, in force since June 2018 and voluntary rather than legally binding: dog walkers are asked "to not use the beach between the Quay to the south and just before the Boathouse to the north in July and August between 10 am in the morning and 5 pm in the evening", and at all times in July and August to keep dogs on a lead on the upper part of the beach in the same area.
