A shingle ridge at the end of Beach Road with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's reedbeds behind it and the shingle running east to Salthouse and west to Blakeney Point. There is no seasonal ban here, but the reserve itself is closed to dogs and the shingle bank is a lead-only route, which is the deal that keeps the birds and the walkers apart. It is one of the great bleak walks of the English coast.
THE SMALL PRINTNorfolk Wildlife Trust: "No dogs permitted on reserve or in visitor centre apart from assistance dogs. Visitors with dogs can walk Beach Road, along the shingle bank (northern reserve boundary) and East Bank. Please keep your dog on a lead at all times." Dogs are allowed on the outside decking at the visitor centre. Leads are also asked for near beach-nesting birds in summer.
