Not sand but the tidal edge of the Humber: a mile of shingle, chalk rubble and soft brown mud running east from directly under the Humber Bridge past the Old Black Mill, with a hard gravel promenade above it and a hundred free parking spaces along the strip. It is East Riding of Yorkshire Council land and carries no seasonal dog ban at any time of year, which makes it one of the few pieces of open water access near Hull that a dog can use in July. The council does require dogs on leads here at all times. The Humber runs a very large tidal range with fast currents and deep mud, so this is a walk beside the water rather than a swimming beach.
