St Aidan's Dunes and Seahouses North Beach

Seahouses
RIGHT NOW (JUL) · OPEN — AND EVERY OTHER MONTH TOO
No photo yet

The long sand and marram run north out of Seahouses towards Bamburgh, backed by dunes and with the Farne Islands sitting offshore all the way. No seasonal dog ban applies: Northumberland's dog control order restricts only two marked stretches, both of them thirty miles south at Newbiggin and Blyth. Ground-nesting birds use the dunes, so the sand is the safer place to let a dog run.

THE SMALL PRINTNo seasonal restriction under the Northumberland County Council (Dog Control) Public Spaces Protection Order in force from 31 January 2026. The county's only restricted beach stretches are at Newbiggin by the Sea, from the breakwater at Church Point to the beach access from the promenade at Sidney Crescent, and at Blyth, from the beach access at Beachway to the beach access at the southern end of the Links Road car park, both 1 May to 30 September. Fixed penalty £100, reduced to £80 if paid within seven days.

Beach House Hotel

NE68 7SR
No reviews yet

A seafront hotel at St Aidan's, looking straight out at the Farnes, and one of the few places on this coast to say plainly how many dog rooms it holds. Twenty of the bedrooms are designated dog-friendly, some with private garden space, so check availability rather than assuming. Dogs are asked to stay off the beds and furniture.

Seahouses harbour and Monks House dunes

3.4 MI · 1H 35M · 86% OFF-ROAD

A three and a half mile easy circuit of about ninety minutes, north from the harbour along the sand to the old Monks House and back on the dune track behind North Sunderland. It begins at the harbour car park in Seahouses; parking is pay-and-display and the harbour end goes first, so the seafront car park is the reliable fallback. The sand is open to dogs all year with no council restriction, so this is an off-lead run out and back, though the return skirts fenced grazing and the harbour itself is busy with fish crates and vehicles.

Seahouses to Beadnell Bay coast path

5.2 MI · 2H 20M · 90% OFF-ROAD

Five miles there and back in a little over two hours, almost flat, on dune path and firm sand past Annstead to the limekilns at Beadnell harbour. Start at the main pay-and-display car park behind Seahouses seafront, which is large but charges all year and fills on Farne Islands boat days. No part of this beach carries a seasonal dog ban, so it is off-lead sand the whole way; the dunes are fenced in places for nesting birds and the Annstead Burn gives a drink halfway.
