St Bees Beach

St Bees · CA27 0ES
RIGHT NOW (JUL) · OPEN — AND EVERY OTHER MONTH TOO

A mile and a half of sand and shingle under the red sandstone of St Bees Head, and the start of the Coast to Coast walk. Cumberland Council sets no seasonal dog ban on the sand, so this is a year-round beach; the restrictions are on the grass behind it rather than the shore.

THE SMALL PRINTNo seasonal ban on the beach. Cumberland Council Public Spaces Protection Order (No. 1) 2024 lists the St Bees "Foreshore" play area (CA27 0ES) and the Outrigg play area as dog exclusion areas (Schedule C), and the land at the Priory Church of St Mary and St Bega and Outrigg playing field as dogs-on-lead areas (Schedule B). Breach is an offence liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale.
