The wide sand flats facing Burgh Island, with the tidal causeway crossing them twice a day. The restricted stretch runs east from the lifeguard steps and is closed to dogs during the day in season; the council publishes it as a ten to seven restriction while the order itself describes a twenty-four hour ban on that part, so read the signs on the day.

THE SMALL PRINTSouth Hams District Council: "Bigbury Beach - between 1 May and 30 Sep between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. inclusive in any 24-hour period". The PSPO 2024 schedule describes the same area as "Part of Bigbury Beach from the lifeguard steps to the high tide mark to the east - Between 1st May and 30th September inclusive (24 hour ban)".
