Tunstall Beach (Sand le Mere)

Tunstall is where the Greenwich Meridian meets the North Sea, and the beach carries no dog order at all. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council dog Public Spaces Protection Order names only Bridlington North, Bridlington South, Hornsea and Withernsea, so there is no seasonal exclusion and no lead requirement on this sand on any day of the year. The catch is getting to it: the only practical way down is through the privately owned Sand le Mere holiday village at the end of Seaside Road, and the path to the beach is regularly cut back by erosion and can be muddy and broken. Once you are down it is wide, firm, empty sand running north towards Aldbrough and south towards Withernsea with nothing on it but clay boulders and driftwood. Nothing here is patrolled, so a rising tide against the clay is your own problem to watch.
