Faxfleet and Weighton Lock Humber bank

The remotest piece of shore in the East Riding: a single lane runs out past Faxfleet Grange to the eighteenth-century Weighton Lock, where the Market Weighton Canal drops into the Humber opposite Whitton Island and Whitton Sands. Below the bank there is firm sand at low water and a mile of saltmarsh, and there is no promenade, no cafe and usually nobody else. The council's seasonal dog ban does not reach here at all, naming only the four North Sea beaches at Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea, so this stretch is open to dogs every day of the year. There is space for a few cars at the lock and a picnic table; the tide comes in fast across the sands and the channel is a shipping lane.
