Dog-friendly pubs in Doncaster

A ten-barrel brewery on Young Street off the top of the city centre with its own tap room in front of the plant, and a window through to the brewhouse so you can watch a brew day from your seat. The brewery's own site states that dogs are welcome with well-behaved owners, which is the whole policy; there are no separate dog areas because it is one small room. It is deliberately child-free with no jukebox, no sports screens, no games machines and no background music, which in practice makes it one of the calmer bars in Doncaster for a nervous dog. Four of their own beers and two guests on cask, three kegs and six handpulled still ciders; closed Monday, open from 5pm Tuesday to Thursday, noon Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5pm Sunday.

An estate pub on Nostell Place in Bessacarr, named after the eighteenth-century racehorse, and a straightforward local rather than a destination. Its own dog-friendly page states that dogs are welcome in the bar area and that water bowls and treats are always available, and it describes the aim as a safe space for dogs rather than merely tolerating them. The welcome is written for the bar, so a dog stays on that side and does not go through to eat. It is on the same road as Bloom Cafe, so this corner of Bessacarr works as a pair of stops on one outing.

A modern pub on Woodfield Plantation in Balby, on the south-west side of Doncaster and within reach of the Hexthorpe end of the River Don path. The pub's own dog-friendly page says dogs are welcome in the bar area and that water bowls and treats are always kept in, so you do not need to bring your own bowl. As with the rest of the group the welcome is bar-side only and is not extended to the dining tables. It is a useful post-walk stop for the Balby and Warmsworth side of the city, where very little else publishes a dog policy at all.

A three-storey old coaching inn on South Parade at the top of the city centre, a short walk from Town Field and the racecourse end of Bennetthorpe. The pub bills itself as Doncaster's most dog-friendly pub and its own page says dogs are welcome throughout, with fresh water bowls put down for them and complimentary treats behind the bar. There is a beer garden at the back for warm afternoons, and the staff ask before making a fuss of a dog rather than reaching straight over. Nothing on the pub's page limits dogs to one room, which is unusual for a city-centre pub of this size.
