An independent free house at 16-17 Hallgate, reopened in March 2024 by a landlord who has run pubs around Doncaster for more than thirty years, with sport on the screens, free pool on Mondays and a sheltered rear patio with tables. The patio doubles as the smoking area and is the sensible place to sit with a dog, because the inside gets very busy and loud at weekends. It is a few minutes from the Market Place and about a mile from Elmfield Park, the nearest place to give a dog a proper run. CAMRA's WhatPub survey of June 2025 lists the pub as dog friendly with no room excluded; that is the published record rather than the pub's own words.
