An independently run pub on Town End, just over the Don from Doncaster centre, built by the Sheffield brewers Ward's just before the First World War and still holding three well-furnished bars, a small rear snug with its original oak seating and fireplace, and well-preserved stained and leaded windows. It carries one star in the Yorkshire Heritage Pub Guide for an interior of special national significance, and there is one open fire plus two wood burning stoves to dry a dog by. Parking is on site and the riverside path along the Don at North Bridge starts a few hundred metres away. CAMRA's WhatPub survey of June 2026 records it as dog friendly with no room excluded, which is the published evidence rather than the pub's own wording.
