Walk SOME LIMITS

Scarborough North Bay, Scalby Mills and Marine Drive

YO12 7TU
5 MI · 2H 9M · 60% OFF-ROAD

A 5-mile circular of about two hours on hard surfaces throughout, out along the North Bay promenade from Peasholm to Scalby Mills, back beneath the castle cliff on Marine Drive to the harbour and up through the old town, with only 80 metres of climbing. Start at Peasholm Park, which has pay-and-display parking and an open-air theatre, about a mile from Scarborough station. The central North Bay beach bans dogs in summer, Marine Drive throws the sea clean over the wall in an easterly and carries traffic, but the northern end of the sands towards Scalby Mills is open to dogs all year and the beck there is a good rinse-off.

Walk SOME LIMITS

Scarborough South Bay and the Castle headland

YO11 2HD
4.3 MI · 1H 58M · 60% OFF-ROAD

An easy 4.3-mile circular of two hours with 140 metres of climbing, from the Spa along the South Bay sands to the harbour and lighthouse, up onto the castle headland and back down through St Nicholas Gardens past the Central Tramway. Start at the Spa, where there is pay-and-display parking on Foreshore Road, or walk down from Scarborough station in about fifteen minutes. Hard surfaces and steps rather than mud, so kind on old paws, but the South Bay beach is closed to dogs in summer and the harbourside is busy with traffic, fish waste and bold gulls.
