A 7.3-mile circular of about three hours with only 90 metres of climbing, running south from Filey along the firm sands of Filey Bay past the wartime pillboxes to Hunmanby Gap, then back on the clifftop path above the bay. Start near Murray Street in the town or at the Coble Landing, both pay-and-display, and note that Filey station sits on the Yorkshire Coast line from Scarborough and Hull. Filey's central beach bans dogs in summer, so between May and September join the sands south of the Coble Landing; beyond that the beach is wide and quiet and a fine off-lead run, but the boulder clay cliffs are soft and the tide comes right up to them at the Filey end.

Ten miles and around four and a quarter hours, out along the sands and up onto the Cleveland Way past Filey Brigg to Lebberston Cliff, then back inland through Gristhorpe on lanes and field paths, with a modest 140 metres of climbing but two miles of tarmac at the end. Start at Filey station, five minutes from the seafront, which saves the summer parking scramble at the Country Park. The northern half is grand off-lead clifftop once past the Brigg, but the edge is unfenced, the fields inland carry sheep and cattle, and the central Filey beach is closed to dogs in summer.

Six linear miles of about three hours along the low boulder-clay cliffs north of Filey, 190 metres of gentle rise and fall on close-cropped clifftop grass, with a wooded descent at the end into Cayton Bay. Start at the Country Park car park and come back on the number 12 bus from the A165 at Cayton Bay, which runs every half hour into Filey. Long stretches are open grass where a reliable dog can run, and Cayton Bay is dog friendly all year, but the whole line runs along an unfenced and visibly slumping cliff edge, and the field boundaries carry sheep from spring onwards.

A short 3.1-mile circular of about ninety minutes out along the whaleback of Carr Naze to the tip of the Brigg, then down the ravine to the sands and back through town, with 105 metres of climbing and a rough scramble over rock ledges at the far end. Start at the Country Park car park on Church Cliff Drive, which is open around the clock and sits at the end of both the Cleveland Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way. The clifftop grass is fine open ground for a dog, but the Brigg itself is a serious tide trap that covers on a rising sea, the seaward edge of Carr Naze is unfenced above a 30-metre drop, and the rock pools cut soft pads.

Six and a half miles and around three hours on the last stage of the Yorkshire Wolds Way in reverse, climbing 180 metres out of Muston onto the chalk and returning down a dry valley on the Centenary Way, chalk underfoot that drains fast but greases up in the wet. Start on Filey Bay Road at the southern edge of the town, with free street parking and the number 12 bus a few minutes away on Muston Road. The dale bottoms are quiet enough for off-lead work, but almost every field on the wold is grazed or in crop with the path along the headland, there are several stiles, and Muston is crossed on the A1039 with no pavement in places.
