Staithes and Port Mulgrave clifftop circular

TS13 5AD
4.2 MI · 1H 55M · 65% OFF-ROAD

A 4.2-mile circular of about two hours that climbs hard out of Staithes harbour onto the Cleveland Way, runs a mile along unfenced clifftop to Port Mulgrave, then loops back over fields, down wooden steps into woodland and through Dalehouse. Park in the pay-and-display car park at the top of Staithes Lane, since the old village is barred to cars, and walk down the cobbled alleys past the Cod and Lobster to start. The cliff path is unfenced with a sheer drop to the scars below and the return crosses grazed fields with gates, so this is a lead-on walk throughout, though the beck at Dalehouse and the harbour give a drink at either end.

Staithes to Runswick Bay clifftop circular

TS13 5AD
7.6 MI · 3H 25M · 70% OFF-ROAD

A 7.6-mile circular with 220 metres of climbing, roughly three and a half hours, out along the Cleveland Way past Old Nab and Port Mulgrave to the steps at Rosedale Wyke and down into Runswick Bay, then back inland by field paths through Hinderwell and Dalehouse. Start from the car park at the top of Staithes Lane; the Arriva X4 links Staithes, Hinderwell and Runswick Bay if you would rather walk it one way and ride back. Both beaches take dogs all year and there is genuine off-lead running on the inland return, but the clifftop is unfenced and undercut in places and the fields carry sheep, so lead up for the whole coastal half.
