Runswick Bay, Port Mulgrave and Hinderwell

Six miles and about three hours north along the Cleveland Way to the abandoned ironstone harbour at Port Mulgrave, returning through Hinderwell on field paths and lanes, with 200 metres of climbing and one steep stepped ravine at Lingrow. Start at the bank top pay-and-display car park above Runswick, since the village car park floods on spring tides and fills early. Runswick beach is dog friendly all year and the beck at Hob Holes is good drinking water, but the clifftop is unfenced above a long drop, the fields inland are grazed, and the path down to the old harbour at Port Mulgrave is eroding and best left alone with a dog.
