The upper-village hotel on the Cleveland Way, five minutes' walk from the beach, where all parts of the building are dog friendly. Expect an exuberant welcome from Ted, the resident brown Labrador landlord.
These are the parts only the business can add. We check the dog policy and stamp the date — photos, prices and their own words are theirs to put in, and this listing is waiting for them.
The fire, the snug, the water bowl by the door.
A few dishes and what they cost, so people arrive knowing.
Can the dog actually sleep here, and what does it cost.
Which rooms, which times, whether the whippet gets a biscuit.
Claiming fills every box above, and lets you reply to reviews when they open. £15 a month, no contract, and it never changes the verdict — the stamp stays ours.
A picture-postcard sheltered bay tucked under the hillside village, ideal for fossil hunting along the shore. Dogs are welcome all year round, but time your visit with the tide — a large sandy beach appears at low tide while high water can cover the beach entirely.
A level two-mile there-and-back along the Cleveland Way from Runswick Bay's upper car park towards Staithes, looking over the remains of Port Mulgrave's 1856 iron-ore harbour. Mostly grass and earth paths with one kissing gate, and refreshments and toilets back in the village.
A gentle 5-mile circular of about two and three-quarter hours that starts along the sands, climbs a narrow path to the dismantled Whitby to Loftus railway and follows the level trackbed under stone bridges to Kettleness, returning on the Cleveland Way clifftop. Park at Bank Bottom car park at the foot of Runswick Bank, a variable charge of roughly £5.80 for four hours, and check the tide first because the opening and closing half-mile are on the beach. Runswick beach allows dogs all year and the old railway is a fine off-lead stretch between gates, but the clifftop return is unfenced and the pastures above Kettleness are grazed.
Nobody has written one for Runswick Bay Hotel. If you have been with the dog, you would be the first — and the first review is the one everybody reads.
