Dog-friendly pubs in Wombwell

Probably the oldest pub in Wombwell, built in 1847 at 66 Park Street and once the tap for the long-gone Geeves brewery, fully refurbished in 2021 under new owners. It is a three-roomed pub rather than one open space, so there is a quieter room to take a dog into away from the sports television, and there is a garden at the back. Children are allowed until 7pm and dogs are permitted throughout. It sits a few streets from Wombwell Park and the paths down to the Dearne. A two-room pub at 1 Aldham House Lane on the highest point of Wombwell, looking straight out over Wombwell Wood and down the Dearne valley. The two rooms have no door between them, so you go back outside to move from one to the other, which is either a nuisance or an easy excuse to take the dog round the block. There is a garden, a smoking shelter and its own car park, and the woods are a five-minute walk. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly on a survey dated November 2018; the pub publishes no policy of its own, and cask ale is not currently kept.

A community pub on George Street in the middle of Wombwell, run by Craft Union, with a pool table, sports screens and an outside area at the back. The operator states "We are pet-friendly and we welcome everyone" and lists it as a dog friendly pub. It is wet-led rather than a food house, so this is a pint after the Wombwell Ings footpath rather than a Sunday lunch. Level access and an accessible toilet.

A large open-plan pub at 74 Wath Road on the Wombwell to Wath road, reopened and heavily refurbished by Star Pubs, serving food from noon until early evening seven days a week. It is close to where the Trans Pennine Trail crosses towards Old Moor, so it is one of the few places on that stretch that is reliably open in the middle of the day, and it has a garden and its own car park. The room is big enough to find a table away from the diners with a dog. The pub's own website states plainly that it is dog friendly.

A renovated roadside pub at 105 Wombwell Lane between Wombwell and Stairfoot, with a new central bar splitting the inside into two separate drinking areas. Dogs are allowed in one of those areas and not the other, so ask which side before you settle. There is a big child friendly garden, covered seating at the front and its own car park, and the Trans Pennine Trail runs close by on the old railway through the Dearne valley. A street-corner local at 15 High Street in the middle of Wombwell, a few doors from the shops on Hough Lane. Craft Union names it as a dog friendly pub, with water bowls kept behind the bar and no expectation that a dog stays outside. It is wet-led — sport on the screens, pool, and a crowd that knows each other — so it suits a pint after the Ings or the Trans Pennine Trail rather than a meal. The George Hotel is a couple of minutes away on George Street if this one is full.
