Dogs are welcome all year: no seasonal ban applies anywhere on this stretch. The tern colony at the Long Nanny end is fenced and wardened in summer, so keep to the water's edge as you get near it.

Beadnell harbour and Ebb’s Nook

A short two and a half mile hour on the flat, out along the whinstone spur of Ebb’s Nook past the ruined chapel and back through the village and dunes. Park at the harbour car park by the eighteenth-century limekilns, which is pay-and-display and small; the walk can also be started from the roadside at the south end of the village. Sand and rock with no seasonal dog restriction anywhere on this beach, so leads can come off, but the Nook is a narrow grassy promontory with abrupt low cliffs on both sides and the tide covers the causeway of rock at its base.

Beadnell Bay to the Long Nanny

Five miles there and back along the great arc of Beadnell Bay to the footbridge over the Long Nanny burn, two hours on level sand and dune path. Start from the harbour car park at the north end of Beadnell, a small pay-and-display that fills by mid-morning; the National Trust car park at Low Newton makes a better base if you would rather walk it from the south. The beach itself has no seasonal dog ban, but the National Trust ropes off the Arctic and little tern colony at the Long Nanny and wardens it round the clock from May to August, and dogs must be on a short lead through that stretch.

Beadnell Bay offers a range of activities including surfing bodyboarding wakeboarding and waterskiing. The established sailing club is great for those wishing to get out on the water while the nearby tennis courts make for competitive family tournaments. Beadnell village is home to a well-stocked general store two excellent pub/restaurants and a fish and chip shop for those sunny evenings on the beach. If you can tear yourself away from the beach the local area is rich in walking and cycling routes leading to neighbouring coastal villages and pubs. The front door opens into a welcoming hallway for storing coats boots and bags before continuing through to the breath-taking open-plan living space. With a double-height ceiling Amtico flooring extensive windows and French doors opening onto the patio this is a fantastic room all year round. Prepare delicious family meals in the contemporary kitchen which is fully-equipped with everything you should need throughout your stay. Enjoy meals at the large dining table which sits adjacent to the patio doors creating an al fresco feel whatever the weather. Take some much-needed time out in the cosy lounge area which features plump sofas a TV and a brick fireplace with wood burner. One double bedroom is located on the ground floor together with a cloakroom for those with limited accessibility. On the first floor are the two remaining bedrooms one king-size master with dressing table antique French style furniture and en-suite shower room and one with a double bed and standard size set of bunk beds ideal for a small family. There is parking for two cars on the driveway. A three and a half mile easy circuit of about ninety minutes, north from the harbour along the sand to the old Monks House and back on the dune track behind North Sunderland. It begins at the harbour car park in Seahouses; parking is pay-and-display and the harbour end goes first, so the seafront car park is the reliable fallback. The sand is open to dogs all year with no council restriction, so this is an off-lead run out and back, though the return skirts fenced grazing and the harbour itself is busy with fish crates and vehicles.

Five miles there and back in a little over two hours, almost flat, on dune path and firm sand past Annstead to the limekilns at Beadnell harbour. Start at the main pay-and-display car park behind Seahouses seafront, which is large but charges all year and fills on Farne Islands boat days. No part of this beach carries a seasonal dog ban, so it is off-lead sand the whole way; the dunes are fenced in places for nesting birds and the Annstead Burn gives a drink halfway.

The long sand and marram run north out of Seahouses towards Bamburgh, backed by dunes and with the Farne Islands sitting offshore all the way. No seasonal dog ban applies: Northumberland's dog control order restricts only two marked stretches, both of them thirty miles south at Newbiggin and Blyth. Ground-nesting birds use the dunes, so the sand is the safer place to let a dog run.
