Reighton Sands and the clifftop

4.5 MI · 1H 57M · 75% OFF-ROAD

An easy 4.5-mile circular of just under two hours with 90 metres of climbing, out from Reighton village to the sands at Reighton Gap, north along the beach and back on the England Coast Path clifftop past a stone bench with the whole of Filey Bay laid out in front of it. Start in Reighton on the old road off the A165; the 12 bus between Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington stops in the village. Dogs are allowed on this beach all year and the sand is broad and quiet outside the holiday season, but the boulder clay cliffs slip constantly, the path along the top is unfenced, and the tide covers the sand right under the cliffs at the Speeton end.

Walk SOME LIMITS

Speeton Cliffs and Bempton from Reighton

10.1 MI · 4H 24M · 90% OFF-ROAD

A big 10.1-mile clifftop circuit of about four and a half hours with 210 metres of climbing, going inland from Reighton through Speeton and Buckton to the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs, then back north-west along the England Coast Path above 120 metres of sheer chalk. Start in Reighton village where the old road leaves the A165; the reserve has its own pay-and-display car park and visitor centre if you would rather halve it. Dogs are welcome at Bempton Cliffs, including inside the visitor centre where there are water bowls, but they must be on a short lead at all times on the reserve, and the entire clifftop stretch is unfenced above a vertical drop with gannets and kittiwakes nesting below.
