Dog-friendly Flamborough and around

The pub on the square that gives Flamborough its crossroads its name, a largely unaltered early twentieth century interior of two rooms on a split level, the front bar doubling as the dining room and a rear room lined with Welsh dressers. There are two garden areas, one with a covered smoking area, a real fire, pool and darts, and the pub's own car park, which is a rarity in a village where everything else is kerbside. It reopened under new management in June 2025 after a spell closed for refurbishment, and food is weekends only through the winter. It is the natural finish for a walk in from North Landing or the lighthouse, both about a mile and a half away. The dog welcome here is recorded by CAMRA's branch volunteers rather than by the pub itself, and their survey of the pub predates the change of management, so it is worth a phone call first.

An independent village local on Flamborough High Street with an L-shaped bar under a beamed ceiling hung with horse brasses, drawing a mix of villagers and holiday people and running a long-standing charity raffle. There is a real fire, a house beer at 3.9 per cent and rotating guests usually from Great Newsome down at Winestead, plus Tuesday quiz, live music and sport on the television. Parking is on-street on the High Street, and it is about a mile down to South Landing or the same up to North Landing, both free of any seasonal dog ban. It is listed as an Asset of Community Value. The dog welcome comes from CAMRA's branch record rather than the pub's own words.

A husband-and-wife dining pub on the corner of Tower Street and Church Street in the middle of Flamborough village, a mile and a half back from North Landing and the same from the lighthouse. The kitchen's own line is fresh, locally sourced, with specials that change with the season, and it is the sort of place that fills on a Sunday. In its own words the pub invites you to bring your dogs along for bookings in the bar side, which puts a dog on that side of the building rather than through in the restaurant. There is a garden and a covered smoking area, and the pub has its own car park. CAMRA's branch volunteers surveyed it on 25 July 2025 and record it as dog friendly, family friendly, with garden and parking.

A corner local on Post Office Street in the middle of Flamborough, refurbished under new management in June 2026 and listed as an Asset of Community Value. Two areas: a general bar with the sport, the pool table and the darts, and a separate dining room used for functions and live music. Four changing beers, usually Theakston and Timothy Taylor, and home-cooked food from noon to eight with longer hours on Friday and Saturday. Parking is on-street around Post Office Street and Tower Street, and there is a garden. The dog rule, dogs welcome kept on a lead, is recorded by CAMRA branch volunteers who surveyed the pub on 12 July 2026, not by the pub itself.

A three-bedroom cottage on Chapel Street in the village, sleeping six, a couple of minutes' walk from the Dog and Duck square and about a mile and a half from both North Landing and the lighthouse. The owners' own site says they accept two or three dogs free of charge, which is a rare thing to see written down and rarer still with no cleaning surcharge attached. There is a secure outdoor yard at the back, so a wet dog can be parked out of the kitchen after a day on the chalk. Everything on the headland is walkable or a five-minute drive: Thornwick, Selwicks Bay, South Landing and the whole Headland Way circuit, none of which carry a seasonal dog ban. Parking is on the street outside.

Haven park on the clifftop between Thornwick Bay and North Landing, with the coast path running along its seaward edge and Bempton Cliffs four miles up the road. Haven says in its own words that it welcomes dogs with open arms, that up to two dogs are welcome in its designated dog-friendly accommodation per booking for a small charge, and that well-behaved dogs are allowed in designated areas of the main restaurant and on the restaurant terrace, with water bowls provided. There are dog walks and open spaces on the park itself and plenty of dog bins. Thornwick Bay and North Landing below carry no seasonal dog ban at all, which is the reason to base a dog here rather than in Bridlington in August. The park does not publish the exact per-dog charge or which caravan grades are dog friendly, so ask when you book.

A long, low, four-roomed family-run hotel on North Marine Road, five hundred yards back from the cliffs and half a mile short of North Landing, built to catch the walkers and the holiday park trade. Ten letting rooms, three changing cask ales usually including Wold Top, a real fire, a garden and its own parking, plus breakfast every day but Monday. There is a shallow ramp to the main door with level access to the bar and the toilets, which is rarer than it should be on this coast. The Headland Way passes the door, and Thornwick, North Landing and the whole outer headland are inside a mile with no seasonal dog ban on any of them. The dog rule, dogs welcome on a lead, comes from CAMRA branch volunteers who surveyed the pub on 27 February 2026; neither they nor the hotel say whether a dog may share a bedroom.

Fifty acres of woodland dropping down a steep ravine to the sea, on the line of the prehistoric earthwork that cuts clean across the Flamborough headland from here to Cat Nab on Bempton Cliffs. The council's countryside service asks only that dogs are kept under close control and picked up after, so there is no lead rule and no seasonal ban anywhere on the reserve or its beach. The tree trail and the ravine paths are soft underfoot and shaded, which makes this the sensible Flamborough option on a hot day when the clifftops are baking. Pay and display parking for about 80 cars sits on the site of the demolished Danes Dyke House off Flamborough Road, with toilets open all year and a kiosk in season. A bridleway leaves the top of the exit road, crosses the ravine and heads over the golf course to Sewerby.

Two hundred and twenty acres of clifftop grassland and chalk cliff wrapped round the lighthouse at the tip of the headland, the most northerly chalk outcrop in Britain. The council's own page for the reserve says dogs are allowed but must be kept under close control and picked up after, and there is no lead order and no seasonal ban here in any month. Walking is on foot only across open field and cliff-edge grass where restharrow, carline thistle and kidney vetch grow, and the drop is unfenced in places, so a recall you can rely on matters more than a lead does. The beach at Selwicks Bay is down a long flight of steps from the grass. There is a large pay and display car park by the lighthouse with toilets open all year, picnic benches and a seasonal cafe and shop.

A wooded chalk valley dropping to the RNLI slipway on the south side of the Flamborough headland, with a circular nature trail through the trees and out along the clifftop above Bridlington Bay. The council countryside service asks only that a dog is kept under close control and picked up after, noting that not everyone is comfortable around dogs, so there is no lead rule and no seasonal ban here in any month. The main access path has a firm surface, is wide enough to walk two abreast and is suitable for a wheelchair, and there is an access-for-all route round the two ponds with interpretation boards and picnic benches a hundred metres along the trail. The beach is down seventy-five steep steps. Admission is free, parking is charged for a hundred cars on the upper level, and the lower level is RNLI and permit holders only with fixed penalties for anyone else.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's stretch of clifftop between Thornwick Bay and Breil Nook, a mile and a half of chalk grassland and sea-pink ledges with puffins, kittiwakes and razorbills below and the odd bottlenose dolphin offshore. The Trust's own reserve page gives the dog rule as on a lead, and asks you to pick up after your dog and use a bin, which is stricter than the council land either side of it. The way in is the coastal public footpath from the North Landing car park, and the Trust warns the path is hilly and steep in places with steps, and to take extra care in wind. Parking is not the Trust's own: use the charged car parks at North Landing or Thornwick Bay, with seasonal toilets and a cafe at North Landing. There is a picnic area on the reserve itself.

The Club's touring site on Flamborough Road at Marton, between Sewerby and Flamborough, set back from the cliffs with Danes Dyke woods and the clifftop path within easy reach. The Club's own site page lists a dog walk on site, a dog walk from the site and a dog washing area, and names dogs among the things the site is ideal for, which is about as explicit as the Club gets. Sewerby Hall is two miles south, Bempton Cliffs four miles north, and the sand below Sewerby is well clear of the Bridlington North Beach summer exclusion. There is no hire accommodation here, so the dog comes in your own van or tent. The Club does not publish a dog charge for this site.

The main cafe in the old stable block at Sewerby Hall, off the courtyard beside the gift shop and a minute from the clifftop gate. Sewerby own frequently asked questions say that only assistance dogs are allowed in the zoo, the house, the adventure playground, the Stables Gift Shop, the Orangery and the Clock Tower Cafe, but then add that there is a section in the cafe where all dogs are permitted, so ask for that side when you go in. Everywhere else in the fifty acres of grounds a dog is fine on a lead, and you must clean up after it. The Orangery, the smarter restaurant in the walled garden, is assistance dogs only with no dog section. The car park is free to visitors and there is a discount on admission if you show a valid parking ticket.

Fifty acres of walled gardens, monkey puzzle avenues and clifftop parkland above Bridlington Bay, with the Georgian hall at the centre and the sea on three sides of the estate. The hall's own FAQ says well-behaved dogs must remain on leads at all times and that you must clean up after them, and that only assistance dogs are allowed in the zoo, the house, the children's adventure playground, the Stables Gift Shop, the Orangery and the Clock Tower Cafe. There is, though, one section of the cafe where all dogs are permitted, which is the useful detail most people miss. The onsite car park is free to visitors, with overflow on Sewerby Road at peak times and a discount on admission if you hold a valid parking ticket. From the garden gate you can pick up the clifftop path straight down to Bridlington North Beach.

A roadside inn on Jewison Lane at Marton, between Sewerby and Flamborough and right beside a caravan and camping site, so it fills with holiday people in season. Inside there is a drinking bar running into an open-plan family area, with a separate restaurant off the main entrance for evening meals, plus a real fire, darts, pool and dominoes. There is a garden and a tarmac car park with disabled bays, which is unusual out here. It opens Wednesday to Sunday only and is shut Monday and Tuesday. The dog rule is the important bit and it is a strict one: CAMRA volunteers record guide dogs only indoors, so an ordinary dog stays in the garden.

A traditional stone pub on Cliff Road in Sewerby village, next door to the gates of Sewerby Hall and looking out over Bridlington Bay to Flamborough Head. Its own about page states plainly that the pub is dog friendly, and describes a large beer garden with a children's play area running towards the clifftop, with ample car parking of its own. The kitchen does pub grub with a twist, homemade pies and locally caught fish, and it makes a good deal of its Sunday carvery. It sits directly on the clifftop path, so it is the natural halfway point of the Sewerby to Danes Dyke walk, and the sand below at Sewerby steps is well outside the Bridlington North Beach exclusion. Food runs noon to eight Monday to Saturday and noon to five on Sunday.

A modernised four-berth cottage on Finley Court in Sewerby village, more or less opposite the gates of Sewerby Hall and two minutes from the clifftop path. The owners' own site describes it as pet friendly and says dog bowls are provided for furry friends, and there is a fully enclosed sunny garden to let a dog out into without a lead. The Ship Inn is at the end of the road and takes dogs, and the sand at Sewerby steps sits well north of the Bridlington North Beach exclusion so it is open all year. Danes Dyke woods are a mile east along the cliff. Parking is off-road at the property.

Four hundred foot chalk cliffs at the end of Cliff Lane holding England's only mainland gannet colony, with six railed viewpoints strung along a level clifftop path from the visitor centre. The RSPB's own words are that dogs are welcome on the footpaths around the reserve and in the visitor centre, but must be kept on a short lead at all times because of the sensitive wildlife and the cliff edge. Water bowls are put out at the back and the front of the visitor centre, and the walk out to Bartlett Nab is flat enough for a wheelchair. The car park holds 74 cars plus 11 blue badge spaces, with no height barrier and no overnight parking. Come between April and August for puffins, gannets and razorbills; the seabirds have gone by October and the clifftop is exposed in a north-easterly.

The sea-view cafeteria inside the leisure centre on the Promenade, reached by its own gently sloping second entrance straight off the front so you never go through the pool side. East Riding Leisure's own visitor page sets out the rules: dogs are welcome at the designated dog-friendly tables, must always be on a lead and under your control, must stay on the floor and never on the seats, must not eat from crockery, and must not disturb other guests by barking or jumping. The same page says the cafes sell dog treats and dog ice creams, which is unusual for a council building. This started as a Bridlington trial and now runs across the East Riding centres. The centre sits on North Beach, above the stretch that closes to dogs from 1 May to 30 September.
