Bempton to Buckton clifftop circular
The council's four-mile round from the RSPB car park on Cliff Lane, out along the top of the three-hundred-foot chalk past Moses Downgate, Bartlett Nab and the buried control room of the old RAF Bempton radar station, then inland by field headland and track to Buckton. It comes back down Bolam Lane to the railway and follows the signed footpath east across the fields over the bumps of the lost medieval village of Newsham, past the village pond, and up Cliff Lane from the White Horse Inn. Dogs must be on a short lead on the RSPB section by the reserve's own rule, and the council's route notes warn that livestock may be present on the inland fields, so the lead stays on for much of this one. There are stiles, a stretch of road walking through Buckton, and rough boggy going after rain. Best between April and August when the gannets and kittiwakes are on the ledges.

The popular seaside towns of Filey Bridlington and Scarborough are close by why not take a tour of one of the local lighthouses or enjoy a trip to sea on an old fishing cobble? Venture slightly further afield and you can discover Beverley Minster and the historic city of York. Step inside this well laid out cottage where the owners have created a spacious and light retreat with all your home comforts. Walk through to the open-plan kitchen area with all the appliances you could need to rustle up a hearty meal with an electric hob/oven fridge dishwasher and chest freezer. Enjoy your meal at the dining table over a well-deserved glass of wine. Located beside the kitchen is a handy utility room with a washing machine. Completing the ground floor is a spacious twin bedroom (can be a super-king-size zip-and-link bed on request) and an en-suite wet room with a shower and WC. Head upstairs to the first floor and unwind in the lounge on the large red corner sofa and pick a film to watch on the wall-mounted TV. The second bedroom offers another super-king-size zip-and-link bed and plenty of storage for clothes plus an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC. Take your morning coffee out to the garden and take in your rural surroundings. Your dog is free to run about in the enclosed garden. Parking is provided at the back of the garden for two cars. Piglet Cottage is within a complex of four properties so easily booked alongside other properties for larger family holidays. RSPB Bempton Cliffs
Four hundred foot chalk cliffs at the end of Cliff Lane holding England's only mainland gannet colony, with six railed viewpoints strung along a level clifftop path from the visitor centre. The RSPB's own words are that dogs are welcome on the footpaths around the reserve and in the visitor centre, but must be kept on a short lead at all times because of the sensitive wildlife and the cliff edge. Water bowls are put out at the back and the front of the visitor centre, and the walk out to Bartlett Nab is flat enough for a wheelchair. The car park holds 74 cars plus 11 blue badge spaces, with no height barrier and no overnight parking. Come between April and August for puffins, gannets and razorbills; the seabirds have gone by October and the clifftop is exposed in a north-easterly.
