The Yorkshire Water reservoir immediately west of Stocksbridge, below Midhopestones and the A616, with a perimeter walk of about two and a half miles on a mixture of track and field path. Yorkshire Water planted a nine-hectare woodland of more than eighteen thousand trees on the northern bank, so the tree cover here is young and thickening year on year. The sailing club uses the water and the far end runs into farmland. Unlike Langsett, Scout Dike and Winscar, Yorkshire Water publishes no visitor page for Underbank, so there is no car park, no toilet and no marked trail: treat it as a local walk rather than a day out.

THE SMALL PRINTUnderbank is Yorkshire Water land and Yorkshire Water's published rule for its sites applies: "Keep your dog on a lead, or keep it in sight at all times, be aware of what it's doing and be confident it will return to you promptly on command", do not let it "stray off the path or area where you have a right of access", and "Dogs to be kept on a short lead between 1 March and 31 July, to help protect ground nesting birds, and all year round near farm animals". Yorkshire Water also states that dogs must not swim in or drink from its reservoirs because blue-green algae is poisonous and can kill them. Sheffield City Council has no dog control PSPO; fouling is the offence, at a £50 fixed penalty or a fine up to £1,000.
