Ingleton Waterfalls Trail

LA6 3ET
4.5 MI · 2H 30M · 95% OFF-ROAD

Famous privately run 4.5-mile circuit through the wooded glens of the Twiss and Doe, past Thornton Force, Pecca Falls and a string of other cascades. Entry is paid (adults 11 pounds, card only, no booking needed) and dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times, with no swimming in the river; the moorland link path between the two glens crosses grazed farmland. Allow two and a half to four hours and expect plenty of steps.

Twisleton Scars and Scales Moor limestone pavement

6.7 MI · 4H · 95% OFF-ROAD

Six and three quarter miles and about four hours across one of the largest sheets of limestone pavement in England, out along the scar top with Ingleborough and Whernside filling the sky, down to Chapel-le-Dale and back on the old Roman road. The clints and grykes are hard walking and there is peaty moor between them; park on the verge at Twisleton Scar End on Twisleton Lane above Ingleton, or start from Ingleton and add two miles. Limestone pavement is the single worst surface for dogs' pads and the grykes are leg-breakers, so pick your line carefully and consider boots; this is open access land requiring short leads from 1 March to 31 July, sheep are on it all year, and there is no water between Ellerbeck and Chapel-le-Dale.
