2 places on our list here — walks from the village, somewhere to stay. Every verdict below was checked by a human — the stamp shows when.
Draughton has four hundred people, no pub and no shop, and one very good hill. Height Lane climbs south out of the village onto Draughton Height, the broad moorland shoulder between Wharfedale and Airedale, and from the top a restricted byway and a public bridleway make a loop east and back so you are not simply retracing the tarmac. The reward is the view: Skipton and the Aire gap one way, Barden and the edge of the Dales the other. Height Lane is single track with high walls and no verge in places, sheep are loose on the unenclosed sections at the top, and the moorland west of the lane is registered open access land with no dog restriction recorded against it.

ADD A WALKA small campsite and glamping site on Heights Lane above Draughton, on the moor shoulder between Skipton and Bolton Abbey, with tent pitches, campervan spaces and en-suite pods tucked under a pine plantation. The site describes itself as dog friendly with walking trails on the doorstep and publishes a flat charge of two pounds per stay per dog, which is about as cheap as a dog charge gets in Craven. It sits on sheep ground and the moor edge starts at the gate, so this is somewhere to have a lead in your hand rather than in your bag. What the site does not publish is whether dogs may sleep inside the glamping pods rather than only on the camping field, and the booking agencies contradict each other on the point, so ring before you book a pod.

Local knowledge beats desk research every time. Name the place and we will check it properly — the venue's own policy, confirmed, then stamped and dated like every other listing.
