Walk SOME LIMITS

Osgodby Hill and Tenants Cliff above Cayton Bay

YO11 3PA
2.9 MI · 1H 32M · 80% OFF-ROAD

A 2.9-mile circular of about ninety minutes through the National Trust woodland on Osgodby Hill, down long stepped paths to the northern end of Cayton Bay and back along the sands and up Tenants Cliff, with 110 metres of climbing all taken on steps. Start at the top of Knipe Point Drive on Osgodby Hill, with free roadside parking, and the number 12 bus stops on the A165 five minutes away. The sands are open to dogs all year and there is a beck to drink from where it crosses the beach, and the woods are shaded and enclosed, but the steps are steep and slippery in wet weather and the clifftop above them is a live landslip.

Walk SOME LIMITS

Osgodby Point and Cornelian Bay

YO11 3PE
3.8 MI · 1H 58M · 80% OFF-ROAD

A 3.8-mile circular of about two hours out to the headland the maps call Osgodby Point and the locals call Knipe Point, north along the cliff to the wooded slope above Cornelian Bay and back inland, with 150 metres of climbing on paths that are steep and greasy in the woods. Start on Osgodby Lane at the edge of the village, where there is free street parking, with the number 12 and 13 buses passing on the A165. Cornelian Bay is a quiet, all-year dog beach reached by a steep wooded scramble, but this whole cliff is slipping, sections of the old Cleveland Way have dropped into the sea and the diversion follows the road, so a lead is needed for much of it.
