Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa
A big spa hotel at the head of Derwent Water on the B5289, with the Lodore waterfall itself in the woods directly behind the building and the Derwent Water shore path a couple of hundred yards away. Dogs are taken in most bedrooms and some suites and have two rooms of their own to sit in, the Side Lounge to the right of the entrance and the Conservatory beyond the bar, where they can be with you for any meal. They are shut out of both restaurants and out of the Lake View Bar seating, though they may walk through the bar to reach the Conservatory.
Mary Mount Hotel
A small hotel in four acres of grounds on the Borrowdale road between Lodore and Ashness, with a gate onto the Derwent Water shore path and the woodland below Falcon Crag. Dogs are taken in designated dog-friendly rooms in the main hotel and in Four Oaks Cottage, and the hotel does not charge for them when you book direct rather than through an agent. Not every room is a dog room, so it is worth ringing rather than booking blind.
Seatoller House
A three-hundred-year-old walkers house at the top of Borrowdale, run on house-party lines with a tea bar and shared tables. Well-behaved dogs are allowed in the bedrooms but not in any of the public rooms, and you are asked to clean and dry them at the back door.
The Borrowdale Hotel
An 1866 hotel in the trees between Lodore and the foot of Shepherd's Crag, half a mile from the Derwent Water shore and on the Borrowdale bus route from Keswick. The hotel has taken dogs since it opened and still puts them in a number of bedrooms, with dog beds and bowls provided on request and a set of dog-free rooms kept back for guests who would rather not. Dogs sit with you in the lounges and the conservatory, including for meals, but not in the restaurant.
The Royal Oak Hotel, Rosthwaite
A walkers' hotel in the middle of Rosthwaite, on the Cumbria Way and a few minutes from the start of the Castle Crag and Dock Tarn paths. Dogs are taken in the bedrooms, the bar and the lounge, and can sit with you for dinner in the Poets Corner dining room, though not in the front dining room. Water bowls are put out and the hotel asks for notice when you book with a dog. The charge is a single fee for the stay rather than a nightly one, which makes it cheap for a week.

Rose Cottage Portinscale

Stroll down to Derwentwater Marina (less than half a mile) and plan a fun day of water sports there s everything here including sailing kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. Hike to the Catbells (2.5 miles) on the western shore or try water scrambling at Stoneycroft Ghyll (2.5 miles). Whizz from the treetops at Whinlatter Forest (3.5 miles) or take a leisurely walk around Borrowdale (4.5 miles) a great backdrop for holiday photos with Ashness Bridge and the aptly named Surprise View. Or explore lively Keswick (1 mile) where you ll find a wealth of shops pubs and eateries along with an art cinema theatre and pencil museum. Step inside and kick off your hiking boots in the hallway before walking through to the rest of the accommodation decorated in a farmhouse style. Settle in for a cup of tea and chat in the living room which has two cosy sofas slate floors a selection of books and the perfect armchair to curl up in with your favourite book - stay warm from the heat of the cosy wood burner. Or plan film evenings here on the TV with Sky a DVD player and soundbar. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen which features an electric fan oven with ceramic hobs fridge/freezer microwave and dishwasher there s also a breakfast table for informal dining and morning coffees while the dining room has a large table and chairs by a vintage dresser. A handy utility room houses a washing machine tumble dryer heated towel rail drying rail sink and extra storage space for sports gear or a dog bed. Head upstairs to find the three spacious bedrooms with handsome furniture ample storage space and period features including exposed timber beams: a king-size bedroom with a TV and an en-suite shower room; a king-size bedroom with a TV and a twin bedroom with views of Walla Crag. There s a contemporary-style family bathroom with a bath separate shower and WC plus a separate WC on this floor too. Step outside to the cosy garden patio with seating to the rear of the property please note there is a right of way through the garden for neighbours. Off-road parking is available for one car with an additional space for a carefully parked car outside the house. There s a shop and pub with food within half a mile of the property. Need to know: 3 bedrooms 2 king size, 1 twin. 2 bathrooms 1 family bathroom with bath, separate shower, WC; 1 en suite shower room with a shower and WC; 1 separate WC. Electric oven with ceramic hobs, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher. Utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, heated towel rail and drying rail. Wood burner logs not provided. 3 TVs 1 Smart TV with Sky, DVD player, soundbar. Books and board games. Towels not included (towel hire available in advance for a fee). Small garden patio area with seating area to the rear of the property. Outside hose pipe for washing down muddy dogs and boots. Please note the rear garden has a right of way through the garden for neighbours. Off road parking for 1 car. Rose Cottage does not have an EV charger, and guests are not permitted to charge vehicles using the standard household sockets chargers can be found at Booths supermarket in Keswick. Shop and pub within a mile.
