Dog-friendly pubs in Thurlstone

A large stone pub on Towngate along the back road through Thurlstone, a mile west of Penistone and a natural turning point for anyone walking the Trans Pennine Trail out towards Dunford Bridge. Kibble Brewery has worked out of the former stable block in the car park since 2021, so the beer is brewed on site. There is a real fire, a pool table and a garden, and the car park means you can arrive muddy without walking through town first. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly; the pub publishes no policy of its own.

A stone free house at 136 Manchester Road on the old turnpike above Thurlstone, a regular in the Good Beer Guide with eight real ales and a real fire, and the last decent pint before the moor road climbs to Dunford Bridge. It is a quiet, conversational pub with a garden and no music machine, which suits a dog that has just done ten miles of the Trans Pennine Trail. Food is Thai on Thursday to Saturday evenings plus Sunday roasts, with pork pies and scotch eggs over the bar the rest of the time. The CAMRA branch entry states outright that dogs with well behaved owners are especially welcome; the pub publishes no written policy of its own.
