Dog-friendly pubs in Penistone

A micropub at 14 Market Street in the middle of Penistone, opened in 2021, with two changing cask beers on handpump and six keg lines plus Woodland Brewery beer to take away. It is one small room of hard floor and shared tables, so a dog goes under the bench rather than beside it, but it is two minutes uphill from the Trans Pennine Trail where the old Woodhead line runs behind the market. Hours are short and it is shut Monday and Tuesday, so time a walk finish carefully. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly; the bar publishes no dog policy of its own.

A long-standing market town local a few doors down Market Street from the Penistone Tap, refurbished in 2011 into a small bar serving a games room with pool and darts and a much roomier lounge behind. The lounge is the part that suits a dog, with space between the tables and a garden to step out to, and it opens from noon every day, which the micropubs up the street do not. It is the closest proper pub to the Trans Pennine Trail crossing and the Penistone Show field. A stone hall on Mortimer Road on the southern edge of Penistone, run as a free house with a restaurant in the old conservatory and a public bar at the main entrance. Its own site is specific about where the dog goes: the main entrance public bar, not the restaurant. There is a large car park and grounds, and it sits close to the Penistone end of the Trans Pennine Trail, so it works as the finish of a walk in from Oxspring. It also has bedrooms, but the site says nothing about dogs in them, so ring before you book.
