Dog-friendly pubs in Mapplewell

The old Fosters bakery at 16 Blacker Road converted into a micropub, with cafe-style seating out on the pavement at the front and a proper beer garden behind. It is small inside, so the garden is the easier option with a larger dog, and it is level all the way in from the street. Handy for the field paths between Mapplewell, Staincross and Darton on the River Dearne. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly; the pub publishes no policy of its own.

A seventeenth century coaching inn on Towngate in the middle of Mapplewell, refurbished and now part of the Nailmaker Pub Co, with a real fire in the bar and a separate restaurant called the 1776 upstairs. The downstairs bar is the part that suits a dog, away from the dining room, and there is a garden and a car park behind. It sits on the ridge road above the Dearne, a mile from the Darton riverside paths. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly; the pub's own website does not mention dogs either way.

The sister pub to the Talbot a few hundred yards away on Greenside, and the second official tap for Nailmaker Brewery down in Darton. Refurbished into an open-plan room with a real fire, a loft bar upstairs for functions, and a big beer garden with its own outside bar, which is the easy place to sit with a dog on a summer evening.
