Fires, flagstones and no side-eye at the bar. Every pub below lets the dog in — and we say exactly which rooms.

Stockyard Pub and Truckstop

S66 8HN
No reviews yet

A truckstop pub on Hellaby Lane between Maltby and Bramley, built by Trevor Potts from reclaimed materials with a timber interior, 1950s memorabilia and a lounge known as Pott's Bar. There is a separate restaurant doing breakfast, roasts, pies and fish and chips and a popular Sunday carvery, a garden, a big car park and even a book exchange, so it is set up for people arriving off the road with a dog in the cab. Roche Abbey and the woods in the Maltby Beck valley are a few minutes east for the walk. CAMRA's WhatPub entry lists it as dog friendly with no room excluded; that is the published record rather than the pub's own wording.

The Hay Nook

S66 8HZ
No reviews yet

An estate pub on Yarwell Drive on the south side of Maltby, describing itself on its own site as a welcoming, family and dog-friendly pub, with a garden and outside seating, a pool table and darts, and sport on several screens. Food runs from noon most days, burgers and pizzas and a Sunday roast, and the site sets no rooms aside as closed to dogs. It is the nearest pub to the Maltby Beck valley and the woods that run down to Roche Abbey, which is the walk most people here are coming back from. The garden is the easier option on a sport night, when the inside gets loud.
