Dog-friendly pubs in Elsecar

Fires, flagstones and no side-eye at the bar. Every pub below lets the dog in — and we say exactly which rooms.

Maison Du Biere

A bottle shop and tap room inside the Elsecar Heritage Centre yard on Wath Road, where you can buy from the shelves and drink it in, with keg lines and a handpump alongside. The outdoor drinking area looks out over the cobbled heritage centre yard, which is the flattest, easiest place in the village to stand with a dog while everyone else queues for the ironworks. Level access throughout and parking on site. CAMRA's branch surveyors record it as dog friendly, on a survey dated April 2021; the bar publishes no dog policy of its own.

The Crown Inn

A village local on Hill Street, a few minutes up the bank from Elsecar Heritage Centre and the station, with a picture window looking back down over the village. The rear lounge runs into a conservatory that opens onto a large beer garden, and a 2025 refurbishment moved the toilets upstairs to make a small extra drinking corner by the front door, so there is somewhere to tuck a lead out of the way of the bar. Six handpumps and a food trade, so the dining side gets busy at weekends. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors record the pub as dog friendly; it publishes no dog policy of its own.

The Market Hotel

Stands on Wentworth Road right next to the gates of Elsecar Heritage Centre, on the line of the filled-in Dearne and Dove Canal, which makes it the obvious stop at the end of a walk round the reservoir or along the old canal bed. It is a genuine multi-room pub with a drinking corridor rather than one opened-out space, a real fire, and a beer garden at the back that has a barbecue going in summer. Walking groups use it for meetings, so a wet dog on the flags is nothing unusual. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors record the pub as dog friendly; the pub publishes no policy of its own, and it does not say whether dogs are allowed in the letting rooms.

The Milton Arms

On Armroyd Lane at the top of Elsecar, taken on by True North Brew Co and reopened in 2018 after a long refurbishment that kept the left-hand snug intact and split the main bar with a low screen, so there are corners to sit in rather than one big room. Three further rooms were made upstairs. It is a short walk from Elsecar Park and the reservoir path. CAMRA's Barnsley branch record notes plainly that the pub is now dog friendly; the pub itself publishes no dog policy.
