A four-hundred-year-old coaching inn at the foot of the Old Man, brewing its own Coniston ales in the yard behind. Children and dogs are welcome in the bar and dining rooms with no booking needed, and two ground-floor cottage rooms next door are the ones set aside for guests bringing dogs.

The Crown Inn

LA21 8ED
No reviews yet

A recently refitted Robinsons inn on Tilberthwaite Avenue, opposite the main village car park and the obvious finish for the Old Man. Its own site states there are a number of rooms suitable for dogs, and the brewery's published account of the place describes a dog shower outside the pub for rinsing off after the fell and a tub of Sir Woofchester's treats behind the bar. Rooms at the back look straight up at the Old Man. Open midday to 11pm, with food to 2.30pm and from 5pm to 8.30pm.

The Ship

LA21 8HB
No reviews yet

A small Robinsons pub at Bowmanstead, just south of Coniston village on the Torver road and closer to the Walna Scar approach than anything in the village itself. The brewery's page states that "all dogs are more than welcome" and that a Sir Woofchester's dog snack is available, with dogs in the accommodation at £20 per night. There is one en-suite room and a two-bedroom self-catering apartment, so the dog charge matters more than usual against a small letting. Open midday to 11pm every day.

The Yewdale Inn

LA21 8DU
No reviews yet

A stone inn on Yewdale Road with a wood-fired pizza oven and a bar that fills with walkers off the Coniston fells. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar area, which is where the fire and the tired-legs seating is; the dining side is not included.
