A recently refitted Robinsons inn on Tilberthwaite Avenue, opposite the main village car park and the obvious finish for the Old Man. Its own site states there are a number of rooms suitable for dogs, and the brewery's published account of the place describes a dog shower outside the pub for rinsing off after the fell and a tub of Sir Woofchester's treats behind the bar. Rooms at the back look straight up at the Old Man. Open midday to 11pm, with food to 2.30pm and from 5pm to 8.30pm.

THE SMALL PRINTThe inn's own site says only that it has "a number of rooms suitable for dogs", so dogs go in a designated subset and must be declared at booking. No dog charge is published. The bar welcome and the outside dog shower are described in Robinsons' own published article on the pub rather than in a formal policy, and no numbers limit is stated.

Two miles on a gravelled all-ability path right round the tarn, fifty minutes at a stroll and the flattest famous view in the Lakes. The National Trust car park is the only sensible start; it is paid, it holds around 130 cars and it is full by half past ten on any fine day, with a mobility vehicle available in summer for those who need it. The surface suits old and short-legged dogs, the tarn has several easy shingle entries for a swim, but Belted Galloways and Herdwicks graze the surrounding enclosures and the path is shared with pushchairs and wheelchairs the whole way, so this is a lead walk from car park to car park.
