This apartment enjoys a tranquil rural location in a tiny hamlet at the foot of Dartmoor s White Tor meaning that guests are able to enjoy miles of walks directly from the front door of the property. The property isn t completely remote though as just two miles away lies the town of Tavistock with its farmers market boutique shops bistros pubs and cafes. The property s mid-Devon location means that it is possible to reach both the north and south coasts of Cornwall in under an hour and of particular interest are the fishing village of Looe King Arthur s Tintagel and the National Trust village of Boscastle. This ground-floor apartment is one of two properties at this location making it an ideal place if you would like to holiday with friends whilst also being able to retain some privacy. This is a studio apartment but it is in no way cramped in fact it is spacious and has a light and airy feel to it. The bedroom area of the apartment has its own space to one end of the property and has a comfortable double bed with stylish bedside lamps and tables. The open-plan living area is directly opposite the bedroom area where the sofa makes a relaxing place to curl up and watch the TV and DVD which also benefits from Netflix and Freeview. There is also a dining table for two which is situated next to the kitchen area. Nothing is lacking here and guests will be pleased to find everything they will need to feel at home including an oven hob fridge with ice compartment microwave and washing machine. There is a shower room with WC and heated towel rail. Outside there is an exclusive patioed seating area and guests are able to make use of the one-acre of shared gardens and where you will find seating areas. There is covered storage available for bikes. Two small dogs or one medium dog welcome by arrangement and at an extra charge. Need to know: Studio apartment with king size bed. A 1.75-mile there-and-back through the deepest gorge in the south west to the 30-metre White Lady waterfall, an hour of walking with 120 metres of climbing on rocky paths, handrails and some very steep pitches. Start at the waterfall entrance car park at the western end, which is free to National Trust members and part of a paid admission otherwise, and note that in winter only the shorter routes stay open when the river is high. Dogs must be on short leads throughout because the path clings to a wet rock ledge above the water for much of the way, there is nowhere safe for a dog to swim, and a big strong dog on a narrow handrailed section is a genuine risk rather than a nuisance.

A 4.5-mile loop of the reservoir road and shoreline tracks under the western tors, about two and a quarter hours with 150 metres of climbing and firm going the whole way, past the two dams, the ruined farms and the arboretum. Park at the Discovery Centre, the Quarry car park or Norsworthy Bridge, all free with donation boxes, and note that the lane round the reservoir is narrow and used by cars, so the shoreline paths are the better line where they exist. There is water everywhere for a dog and a level 1.5-kilometre easy-access trail in the arboretum for older legs, but sheep and ponies come down off Sheepstor and Leather Tor onto the road and the open moor above the water is access land with the 1 March to 31 July lead requirement.

Three and a half miles on the bed of the old Princetown railway to the flooded workings and ruined cottages at Foggintor Quarry, an hour and three quarters with 110 metres of gentle climbing on a firm stony trackbed and a short spur into the quarry itself. Start at the Princetown visitor centre car park and pick up the trackbed behind the village; the gradient is a railway gradient throughout, which makes this the easiest way onto the high moor for an older dog or a pushchair. It is open common all the way with sheep and ponies grazing beside the track and skylarks in the grass either side, so the lead rule from 1 March to 31 July applies, the quarry pool is deep and cold with sheer granite sides, and there is no other water on the route.

Six miles out and back across the high central moor on a clear stony track, three hours with 170 metres of climbing, past South Hessary Tor and the boundary stones to the medieval cross at Nun's Cross and the leat above Foxtor Mires. Start at the National Park visitor centre car park in Princetown, which is paid, large and the last reliable toilets and water tap before the moor; the route is a track all the way so it is navigable in mist when the surrounding moor is not. Dogs get miles of open running here, but this is working common with sheep, cattle and ponies everywhere and skylarks nesting in the grass, so a lead is required between 1 March and 31 July, the mire either side of the track will swallow a dog that wanders, and there is no clean water until the leat.
