Known to everyone as Nellie’s after a long-serving licensee, this Samuel Smith’s house on Hengate beside the bus station is a warren of panelled corridors, gas lamps, bare boards and real fires that has barely changed in a century. It is one of the most photographed interiors in the East Riding and worth a look even if you are only passing through. Dogs are limited to the patio at the back, which is a genuine restriction in a pub whose whole point is the inside. That limit is recorded on CAMRA WhatPub from a branch survey on 21 February 2020 and is not the pub’s own published policy.

THE SMALL PRINTCAMRA WhatPub, surveyed 21 February 2020, lists the White Horse as dog friendly "patio area only". The gas-lit interior rooms are therefore out, and the rear patio is the only part a dog can use.
