Opened in 1885 between Walton Street and Anlaby Road, West Park is the green setting for the MKM Stadium and for Hull Fair, which takes over the Walton Street side for a week every October. Away from the stadium it is a straightforward Victorian park of mature limes, wide lawns, a bowling green, an aviary and a lake, with a made-up path circuit that stays walkable through the winter. It is Hull City Council land, and the council closes only the play area to dogs; the city has no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order at all. Match days and fair week both make this a lead-only park in practice, and the aviary birds are worth steering a keen dog past.
