Victoria Dock Village was built in the 1990s on the filled-in timber dock east of the River Hull, and the best thing about it is the shoreline walkway that runs the whole way along its Humber frontage and on west to Sammy's Point and The Deep. There is a real beach of sand, shingle and brick rubble below the wall at the eastern end, reachable by steps, and it is one of very few places in the city where a dog can get into open water. This is Hull City Council, a unitary authority with no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order, so nothing here is closed to dogs at any time of year. The Humber has one of the largest tidal ranges in Britain and a savage ebb current, and the shoreline below the wall covers completely on a big spring tide.
