Route diagram, drawn from the recorded track — for the shape of the walk, not for navigation. Carry OS Explorer on the hill.

A 5.9-mile figure round the wooded becks below Goathland with 180 metres of ascent and about two and three quarter hours of walking, on rooty riverside paths that are slippery in the wet and include several stepped descents into the gorges. Park on the long village green at Goathland, or arrive by steam train at Goathland station and pick the route up from there. Both West Beck and Eller Beck give deep, safe pools for a swim, and dogs can be loose in the woods, but Goathland's sheep wander the greens and the roads freely, so leads through the village itself.
