The village green at Hoylandswaine, two miles east of Penistone on the A628, known locally as The Nook, with a refurbished play area and grass behind it. Barnsley Council upgraded it in its Love Where You Live programme along with the other Penistone ward greens. It is a few minutes round and the value of it is the lanes running north and south out of the village into open farmland, where the Penistone Boundary Walk passes. On its own it is a village green, not a walk.

THE SMALL PRINTBarnsley Council's borough-wide dog fouling and control PSPO, in operation from 1 April 2025 for three years: remove the faeces, carry and produce the means to pick up when an authorised officer asks, and lead the dog when an authorised officer directs. Dogs must not enter any fenced or enclosed children's play area signed as a dog exclusion area, which covers the play area here, and must be on a lead in every Barnsley cemetery. Fixed penalty £100 or a level 3 fine on conviction. The lanes out of the village run between grazed fields, where a lead is a legal requirement around livestock.
