A community pub at 30 Hoyland Road in Hoyland Common, on the road between the A6135 and Hoyland town centre. Craft Union lists it among its dog friendly pubs and keeps water bowls behind the bar; the operator's line is that everyone is welcome, paws and all. It is a drinking pub with pool tables, darts, live sport and a DJ at weekends rather than a food house. Wombwell Wood and Elsecar Reservoir are both within a couple of miles.

THE SMALL PRINTCraft Union lists the Star Hotel as a dog friendly pub and describes cosy corners and water bowls, but publishes no room-by-room detail, so which areas a dog may use is at the manager's discretion. Dog treats vary by pub.
