Setting Dyke is a drain cut as part of a 1172 scheme to take the water off the Newlands carrs, and Hull City Council has turned its grassed bank into one of the city's signposted walking routes. The walk heads west from National Avenue along the north side of the drain, crosses County Road North, passes Bricknell Playing Fields and slips into the strip of woodland by the Hull to Scarborough railway before coming back through Dent Road, Bishop Alcock Road and Bricknell Avenue. This is Hull City Council land and highway throughout, and Hull is a unitary authority with no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order, so the council's own route guidance asks only that you pick up after your dog. County Road North is a genuinely busy crossing and the drain bank is boggy and rutted in winter.
