Rockford Fields Meadow Circuit

Rockford Fields is a genuine wild hay meadow left over from the monastic farming of the Sutton carrs, and it survives inside east Hull because the old Hull to Hornsea railway walled it off on one side and the Foredyke Stream on the other. Hull City Council's signposted circuit starts at the Sutton Road underpass on the rail trail, drops onto the meadow, follows the Foredyke Stream track past the allotments and a strip of young woodland, and comes back over Sutton Trod, the raised path that carried villagers into town before the roads were made up. It is Hull City Council land, and Hull, a unitary authority quite separate from East Riding, has no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order; the council's own route notes ask only that you pick up after your dog. The meadow is left uncut until late summer for the wildflowers, so the grass is chest-high on a spaniel from June.
