The steepest ground in Pocklington starts about four hundred yards from the Market Place, and this circuit takes it. From the free car park off Railway Street the route climbs The Balk out of town, up over Chapel Hill with the whole Vale of York opening out behind you, then contours the edge of the Kilnwick Percy golf course to Kilnwick Percy Hall, whose forty-seven acres of parkland, woodland walks and lake are open to anyone from dawn until dusk. The return drops south-west on field paths and green lanes above Burnby. It is chalk and clay underfoot, genuinely muddy from November to March, and part of the outward leg runs along the edge of a working golf course where a loose dog is not welcome.

Around farm animals and horses it must be on a lead, and on a short lead in fields with sheep. No Public Spaces Protection Order applies to this route; the council's dog orders here cover only fenced children's play areas, school grounds, listed churchyards and cemeteries, and four named beaches on the coast. Part of the route runs along the edge of the Kilnwick Percy golf course, which is private land with a right of way through it, and the estate parkland at Kilnwick Percy Hall is open dawn to dusk on the owners' goodwill rather than as a right. Keep the dog close on both.
