Pearson Park and the Avenues Circuit

Hull's first public park, laid out in the 1860s by Zachariah Pearson, still keeps its original perimeter carriage drive, serpentine lake, bandstand, Victorian conservatory and marble statues of Victoria and Albert, and this route links it to the four tree-lined Victorian avenues west of Princes Avenue. Pearson Park is Hull City Council land, a unitary authority quite separate from East Riding, and the council's own park page allows dogs everywhere except the enclosed play area. The circuit leaves the Beverley Road gates, rounds the lake, drops onto Princes Avenue and runs the full length of Park Avenue past its cast-iron drinking fountains to Chanterlands Avenue, returning along Westbourne Avenue. Well over half of it is pavement rather than park, so it is a lead walk with a green middle rather than a run-free space.
