Our drawing of the route — the shape of the walk, not a navigation aid. Carry OS Explorer on the hill.
Four and a quarter miles and about two and a half hours up the finest oak gorge in the Peak, along Burbage Brook and back through the Longshaw estate. Start from Grindleford station, where roadside parking is free but tight and considerate parking matters to residents; the National Trust car parks at Longshaw are the alternative, free to members. Cattle and ground-nesting birds share this ground and the National Trust asks for a short lead at all times through Padley Gorge, the brook runs the length of the walk with pools deep enough to swim, and there are water bowls and a dog area inside the Longshaw cafe.
