Hidden down an alley off Silver Street, a late seventeenth-century merchant's house rebuilt in 1881 by Smith and Brodrick as an idealised old English inn, with massive brick inglenooks and a CAMRA three-star historic interior. There is a secluded heated courtyard outside, and the panelled Plotting Parlour upstairs is kept mainly for dining and functions. This is Hull City Council ground and the city, a unitary authority entirely separate from East Riding, operates no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order, so nothing outside the alley restricts a dog. The dog-friendly listing comes from CAMRA's WhatPub survey record rather than the pub's own words.
