Engine Drain, Kingswood

Kingswood was built on drained carrland in the 1990s and 2000s, and the Engine Drain that made the building possible now runs through it as a tree-lined trail, which is the one properly green thing in a district otherwise made of retail sheds and new housing. Hull City Council's signposted circuit starts at the Kingswood Retail Park bus interchange by Asda, picks the drain up at the zebra crossing and follows it past the playground and Kingswood Parks Primary School to the Village Green shops, returning by Runnymede Avenue, Richmond Way, Barnes Way, Ashcombe Road and Althorp Road. It is all Hull City Council land and highway, and Hull has no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order at all, so the council's own guidance for the route asks only that you pick up after your dog. It is flat and hard-surfaced almost throughout, which makes it a good winter option, but there are several busy estate-road crossings.
