THE SMALL PRINTSheffield City Council has no dog control PSPO; the city's only PSPO, in force from 7 April 2025 for three years, covers the city centre and prohibits alcohol in the street, begging, loitering, drug use and urination or defecation, and says nothing about dogs. Dogs in Sheffield parks are governed by the council's Responsible Dog Walking Code of Conduct: "keep dogs that do not have reliable recall on a lead", "stick to designated paths", "keep dogs out of waterways to protect vegetation, wildlife, and water quality", and in ecologically sensitive areas "dogs must be on short leads from March to August". The code is guidance rather than a fineable order. Fouling is the exception, at a £50 fixed penalty or prosecution and a fine up to £1,000. Keep dogs out of the lake, which the code specifically covers.
